Join us to explore the coastal regions of neighboring countries for an intriguing blend of nature — plus a transit of the legendary Panama Canal — aboard National Geographic Sea Lion. Walk rain forest trails, home to capuchin and howler monkeys, three-toed sloths, iguanas and hummingbirds. Snorkel at Panama’s famed Isla Coiba. Kayak along wildlife-rich coastlines. Reservations: JESS Kalinowsky JESS@FriendsTravel.com 24/7/365

Surf School’s an off-the-beaten-path, optionally all-inclusive, week-long surf academy for everyone from beginners to experts in a tiny beachside town called Nosara in Costa Rica, with predictably rideable waves on a pristine, warm-water, nature-preserve beach accessible either via a dirt road or through a jungle path that unexpectedly ends at a sandy graveyard, which is presumably where Sandy Alomar, Jr. rockets baseballs at you from a catcher’s stance until you die! Lessons happen for an hour-plus twice a day, starting with basics (paddling, standing, etc.) on the beach and continuing in the water, first getting you comfortable on the whitewater before eventually heading out behind the break, with a uniquely focused instruction style that’s got no more than three students per instructor, who include both locals and expats with names like Ronaldo, Rolo, and.. Owen (you’ll never guess which is which!). To break up the sessions, there’s a full-serve restaurant and bar serving up local microbrews and specialty cocktails (fine, caipirinhas), as well as optional activities that range from late-night excursions to check out a slew of monstrous sea turtles emerge from the water to dig ditches and lay eggs on the beach, to back-country ATV explorations, to a forest-canopy zipline, to partying in the local club “Bananas”.

Packages for all levels of surfers, from the very beginner to the advanced on one of Costa Rica’s best surfing beaches.

Three, Four, or Five Star accommodations, plus transportation. Everything for the active adventure traveler. Non Surfers will have plenty of activities to keep them busy while the surfers are doing there thing!

If you and your sweetheart prefer something a bit more adventurous than the typical getaway, Chaa Creek offers a stay unlike any other. The Belizean rainforest eco-lodge, located on a private 365-acre nature reserve near the foothills of the Maya Mountains, provides an ideal setting to reconnect with nature and one another. Wake to the sounds of the rainforest in one of the lodge’s many different accommodations, including thatched-roof cottages and treetop Jacuzzi suites. Once you’ve taken in the surrounding beauty, you can enjoy together time with on-site activities like horseback riding, canoeing, or relaxing at the spa. The lodge also offers helicopter rides, snorkeling, and tours to Mayan temples for when and if you decide venture out.

Rooms start at $450 per night (without taxes and fees) for the treetop Jacuzzi suite. Packages are also available.
